performers

[A Cappella Group]

performers

Founded in 1994, Aural Pleasure is Emory University’s oldest co-ed a cappella group on campus. This is NOT your mother’s “glee club” — AP takes pride in bringing intense energy to performances and an edge to its arrangements, sound, and style. You won’t find any ‘Doo Wop’s in AP’s songs, and that’s just the way we like it!

[MC's]

Chris ‘Kato’ Ju is a 23-year old Korean-American music producer/artist. Originally hailing from VA, he’s now walking the streets of Atlanta’s ever-growing hip-hop scene. Kato has been featured in KoreAm Magazine, The Korea Times as well as several metro-Atlanta publications (both English and Korean). His music has been featured and reviewed on some of the most distinguished music blogs on the Internet such as MTV Iggy, KevinNottingham.com and RefinedHype.com. Kato’s latest project includes his production mixtape series – ‘T.I.M.E.’ (This Is My Everything), a compilation of his production with various artists across the U.S. His latest single ‘Love’ is also featured on the soon to be released T.I.M.E. Vol. 2. He is currently finishing up his education at Georgia State University as a marketing major.

Andy Shin, aka Akademikz, was born and raised in the heart of Los Angeles County, California. From the very beginning, Andy developed a passion for music and the hip-hop movement. By 2003, Andy, by this time Akademikz, began to channel his interest in hip-hop into recording his own music. The next year he dropped his first single, “Only You”, which despite a heavy investment of time was released to poor reviews and little acclaim. By 2006 however, Akademikz began to make music nearly full-time, spending much of his time in the studio recording and writing as often as possible. After two years of dedication and countless days recording, his first mix tape, “Time to Teach”, was released to much anticipation and aplomb. With the release of “Time to Teach”, Akademikz solidified his place in the Atlanta underground rap scene as an up-and-coming young artist, earning praise from fellow local artists as well as industry insiders. Following this major breakthrough the young rapper took to the local music scene, doing several shows. With the coming of the New Year, in January 2009 Akademikz was recruited to local Atlanta affiliate Rize Up Records, making an appearance on the widely acclaimed “Rize Up Records Mixtape Vol. I”. In April of 2009, at Kollaboration Atlanta 2009, Akademikz burst onto the big stage as he performed his single off the newly released “Rize Up Records Mixtape Vol. I” in front of a packed house of over 1200 at Center Stage. Currently the aspiring rap artist is still working in the studio, continuously recording and writing and remaining connected to the Atlanta rap music scene.

[Vocalist]

performers

Clara Hong is a Junior at Mill Creek High School. She is involved with the Mill Creek Lacrosse team as well as the Choral Department. She is also an active student of art. Clara was titled ‘Homecoming Princess’ two years in a row (Sophomore and Junior), crowned ‘Miss Sophomore Mill Creek’, winner of ‘Mill Creek Idol’, and won the ‘Hope Talent Show.’ She loves to sing, play the piano, play the guitar, paint, dance, and write. She loves The Beatles. She hopes to pursue something in music or pursue a career with art.

[Breakdance Crew]

performers

Lost in the Gym formed in the Fall of 2008, starting as a group of friends who just loved to dance. Afterwards, they decided to become a crew. Last year, they had the great honor of winning 2nd place at Kollaboration ATL2. Over the past few years, they have additionally performed at several venues such as Chopsticks for Charity, The Rialto, Japan Fest, Culture Shock, Death Talent Jam XIV, GSU Campus Movie Festival, Athens Military Hall, International Stars, Georigia State Fashion Show and TET 2010. They have also opened up for Quest Crew at Club Pure and competed at Evolution 4 Atl, 24/7, Loose Screws 11, Bashville Stampede, Luby’s Bar and Grill, and Tuesday Nights at Cenci’s. They have high hopes in continuing to pursue dance for as long as their body’s allow.

[Hip-Hop Dance Crew]

performers

Persuasian is an all female hip hop dance crew at Emory that incorporates both the sexy and the swagger. The group was founded in the Spring of 2008 as a small Asian dance team wanting to reach out to the Asian-American community on Emory Campus through dance. However, since then the group has evolved into a dynamic and reputable dance team performing not only at the events geared for Asian students (such as Korean Culture Night and Lunar Banquet), but also main campus-wide events such as Cultural Beats, Essence, and AHANA dance. Persuasian has also performed for the Atlanta community in shows such as Fusion and Kollaboration ATL2. Persuasian hopes to grow even more in its entertainment to a wide variety of audiences in the upcoming years.

TrickaNomeTry (TNT) Dance Crew, an all male hip hop dance group from Emory University, started in the Fall of 2009. With their own unique, explosive and energetic style of dancing, the group focuses on entertaining and inspiring the crowd. By fusing visual tricks and stunts with intricate choreography, this group never fails to amaze. TNT has performed for students at many Emory-affiliated events such as Lunar Banquet, Cultural Beats, and Emory Exito and is now setting their sights on larger events in the Atlanta area including KollaborationATL and Culture Shock.

For the past few months, these two crews have fused and come together to bring the best of hiphop dancing at Emory through an electrifying performance at KollaborationATL3!

[Acoustic Duo]

performers

Often referred to as “the cute one” and “the older brother,” Josh & Jacob Fu have been playing together… well… since they were born. Whether it was playing make believe, video games, or music – there has always been a unique dynamic between the two. With a base in Worship Music and their involvement in church, they’ve branched out to play covers for various events and restaurants around Atlanta in the last few years, and now are beginning to write their own music as THE FU.

[Alternative Rock Band]

performers

On any given night, the streets of Decatur, GA come alive with a completely new sound – it’s the mix of a deft wordsmith rapping over a driving rock beat. Their breaks are smooth, the transitions powerful, the message clear: this isn’t your parent’s brand of fusion, this is something fresh. Shaun Patrick and the Standard has exploded onto the Atlanta music scene with their fresh collaboration of hip-hop and rock and roll. Fronted by Atlanta native Shaun Patrick, the band lives the rock star lifestyle that their music reflects. The music’s live elements make you ready to jump around like you’re at the Masquerade, while simultaneously the band’s effortless flow makes you feel like you’re dancing with the best DJs at Opera. Think Gucci Mane kicking Axl out of Guns n’ Roses, or Gym Class Heroes and Lil Wayne creating the baddest kid on the block. Better yet, don’t think anything until you hear Shaun Patrick and the Standard – these guys are unlike anything you can possibly imagine.
